Kristin and Amanda. Angela married Don Ellis. They have 2 sons, Christopher and Cory. Gina married Lennie Imoehl. They have 2 sons, Zachary and Cody. Jenny and Keith Huinker had a daughter, Ashley.Jenny later married Neal Baumgartner. Julie is continuing her education in bookkeeping at NICC (Northeast Iowa Community College), Calmar. Kristin married Dean Baumler.

They have a son Derick and a daughter Tiffany. Amanda is attending St. Francis de Sales grade school, Ossian.

In 1977 Ann Marie suffered a cerebral aneurysm and was partially paralyzed on her left side. After many hours of physical therapy Ann was able to walk and continue caring for her family. Today Ann does volunteer work at the Ossian Senior Flospice and continues to be busy with her youngest daughter Amanda. Ann lives in Ossian.

Richard “Dick" graduated from South Winneshiek High School and then served 2 years in the U.S. Navy during the Viet Nam Conflict - one year of which was spent in Viet Nam. On 15 Jun 1966 Dick married Judy Ameling at St. John's Catholic Church, Ft. Atkinson. Dick and Judy had 3 sons: Ronald, Bradley and Troy. Ron married Deb Pelican on 9 Jul 1994. They have 2 sons, Derek and Tyler. Ron graduated from NICC in Diesel Mechanics and works in that profession. Bradley married Karen Zoulekon3Sep 1994.

Bradley graduated from Luther College in 1992 with a B.A. in Accounting and works as a loan officer in Postville. Troy joined the U.S. Army Reserve 389th Engineer Battalion, Decorah in 1991 serving his country in Guatemala and Honduras. Troy graduated from South Winneshiek High School in 1992 and went on to NIACC (Northern Iowa Area Community College), Mason City where he studied police science. He changed his major to nursing in 1993. Troy attended NICC for a year before being accepted at Allen College of Nursing, Waterloo. He was beginning his 3rd year in the Bachelor of Science Nursing program when he was killed in an automobile accident 15 Sep 1995. Troy is buried at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery, Ossian.

Dick works for the Winneshiek Co. Road Maintenance Department and Judy works at a bank in Decorah. Dick and Judy live in Ossian.

Cheryl graduated from Decorah High School in 1969 and received her LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) training in Rochester, MN. She went on to receive her RN (Registered Nurse) training at NICC in Calmar. Cheryl worked at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester until marrying James Elshoff 14 May 1985.

James received his B.S. from the University of Minnesota and works for a major paper plant in Florence, AL. Jim and Cheryl had 2 sons, Matthew (14 Jul 1984-28 Oct 1984, buried in Rochester) and Benjamin (b.  Rochester). Jim and Cheryl live in Florence, AL.

James attended NICC in Calmar after high school studying the welding profession. He lives in Decorah and currently works as a welder in Cresco.

Hedges, Michael and Antonetta (Zweibohmer)

Michael Hedges, born Michel, and later known as Mike L. Hedges, was born 22 Nov 1879 in the Valley of the Unterschlinder, near Hoscheid, Luxembourg, in Central Europe. He was the third child of Nicolas and Marie Catherine (Klemmer) Hedges. The family name was spelled “Hoedges" until 1875.

His brothers and sisters were: Lucia, Nicolaus, Johannes, Nicolaus II and Leonard.

Mike’s people were poor owning only about 20 acres of land, and it was not even all in one piece. After working at a flour mill and hauling beer for a brewery, he took his life’s savings and emigrated to America. Mike sailed with his cousins, the Fromme’s from Antwerp, Belgium, on the steamship Friesland 20 Apr 1901. He arrived at New York on 30 Apr 1901 with few possessions: a handmade trunk, an extra suit of clothes, his prayerbook and rosary, a few family pictures and $23.00, his life’s savings. He went by train to West Union, IA, Fayette, Co., where he was met by his uncle, Peter Klemmer of St. Lucas, who was a carpenter and had also emigrated earlier. The cousins stayed in Chicago, IL. In the wagon on the way to St. Lucas, Mike kept asking his uncle when they would get to the main road (it was spring and the roads were muddy and deeply rutted). Finally his uncle told him, “This is the main road.”

At St. Lucas Mike worked as a farm hand for Nick Winter and at Ossian, IA for August Lansing and Theodore Scheidel. Later he was to rent a farm from “Ted" Scheidel, along with his brother John who had by then also emigrated to America.

On 3 Oct 1905 he married Antonetta Zweibohmer at St. Francis DeSales Church in Ossian, IA. She was the oldest child of Fred and Anna Hageman Zweibohmer whose farm lay near the Scheidel farm south of Ossian. The story was told of how Mike was hurrying thru the neighbor’s (Nesvik’s) oats field to the Zweibohmer’s farm to see his beloved, Nettie, when the neighbor accosted him allegedly for trampling the oats and a fist-fight ensued.
